MOHS SURGERY

August 20, 2011 – Dr Robert Aylesworth, of Aylesworth Dermatology SC, has recently become a fellow in the American Society of Mohs Surgery. Dr Aylesworth joins an elite group of only 9 dermatologist in Wisconsin and approximately 500 in the US who have obtained fellowship in the society. Many other specialties claim to do Mohs surgery but only dermatologists and pathologists can interpret microscopic slides of skin and perform Mohs surgery. Dr Aylesworth has performed over 500 successful Mohs surgery procedures over the past 2 years. Mohs surgery, is a precise surgical technique for removing several types of skin cancers. During the surgery, layers of cancer-containing skin are progressively removed and examined until only cancer-free tissue remains. Mohs surgery offers maximum removal of cancer with minimum damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Mohs surgery is often cited as having the highest cure rate for the most common type of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma. It’s also highly effective for recurrent basal cell carcinoma and offers the highest cure rate for these cancers, as well.
